Joining Forces, Multiply Benefits

18/04/2015

With the implementation of the Project  "Improving Food Security and Nutrition through the Technological and Financial Support of the Production Chain of Bean" in the municipalities of Opatoro and Tutule, department of La Paz, Honduras supported by SAG-USDA-IICA 53 women have joined the bean crop under technical form.

It has been a unique experience for women and their families, as they have improved their condition of food and nutritional security, through the sale of part of their production, which has allowed them to buy other food items needed for consumption.

Mrs. Maria Rosalina López is a beneficiary of the project in El Carrizal II in Opatoro La Paz, she states that it has been of great benefit to the community, now we have our own harvest with an irrigation system, technical assistance, training, silos and dryer, now we don´t buy the beans rather we derive some revenue from the sales of grain after we stored for our own consumption.

Before the project we only harvested two cwt because we didn´t have no means to grow sufficient, after the project, our first crop got 18 cwt which has allowed us to improve our standard of living, now I can buy and supply needs at my home. We thanks SAG-USDA-IICA to change our lives and our community, and the Cooperative Mujeres de la Sierra to reach this community where we  people with much need. We hope to give continuity to this project.
